I was lucky enough to be able to borrow a trail camera in July 2025, hoping to see a Hedgehog. I have seen the signs and heard the noises of Hedgehogs for decades in my urban garden. Over the last year I have been leaving food out and assuming it was the Hedgehogs that were eating it.
My neighbor has seen half a dozen or more on occasion’s feasting on mealworms left for the birds. They have overwintered in the garden an young spotted.
A key factor in this activity is that my garden has the only open access from the back to the front on the whole street. This means I get Foxes, Badgers and Hedgehogs all using it as a highway.
For three nights in mid July I had a camera out from about 9pm to 4am. The camera records for a minute when movement is detected and what I got was 44 minutes. So many were triggered by insects and invisible activity. So it all edits down to about 14 minutes from 21 hours of possible activity.

As can been seen the Fox is aware of the red light and curious enough to stop for a closeup. Watch the thirsty Hedgehog lapping up water for about a minute, having a bit of a scratch and l moving pretty fast.
One thing I learnt was that I may have been feeding the Fox for a year. Now the food is in a less accessible place but without a camera I may never know who is eating it.
