Magnolia Flowers
These are two of my favourite Magnolia species. First the Purple Magnolia or Magnolia liliiflora. Next the comparatively delicate looking Siebold’s Magnolia or Magnolia sieboldii. Can you chose your favourite of the two?
In the UK parks are historic landscape features created by wealthy landowners. The style and forms changed over time and with fashion. In essence though they are tracts of land with mature trees often imported. Elements will likely have influence from other locations and countries. A typical feature in one era was the Haha. A small ledge drops down from the formal area near the house to the grazing land. From the house it seems continuous as the drop is hidden. So when discovered one might say ‘Ha ha’.
Gardens are a popular place to visit and are usually associated with the parks but are the formal area close to the house of the owner. A place where people could perambulate or picnic while enjoying the flora. Of course having the latest Tulips at one time was all the rage, just like anything new or exotic.

The Walled Gardens of Cannington lie within the grounds of a medieval priory. The gardens had undergone extensive redevelopment when officially opened by HRH the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward. Handkerchief Tree Flower The handkerchief or dove tree is originally from south west China. Introduced to Europe in 1904. Originally thought to be in the Dogwood family. This fast growing tree with it’s Lime like leaves, is best know for the elegant white bracts. From where it gets it’s name. Read more…
